Noble's test

About

This test, explained by Philippe Averous, is useful in cases of suspected iliotibial band syndrome (also called windshield wiper syndrome). The examination: we exert digital pressure at the level of the summit of the external condyle, 2 to 3 cm above the joint line when the knee is flexed to 90°: we then carry out passive flexion / extension movements of the knee . If a sharp pain appears (usually around 30° of flexion), this indicates the positivity of the test. The test is normal if it is negative. To our knowledge, there are no studies on the sensitivity, specificity and, a fortiori, likelihood ratio determining the reliability of this test. The other test described for iliotibial band syndrome is the Rennes test. The latter will be carried out under load. You can find Philippe Averous who will lead the training "Clinical assessment and manual therapy of the athlete's knee"
